The medals and the medal ribbons differ in colour and shape. Here's a legend of how this should be decoded.

Medal ribbon shape -> Game

As there are three different games (Bridge Builder, Pontifex, Bridge Construction Set), the game is indicated by the shape of the medal ribbon:

• the ribbon tapered away from the medal (/\, e.g. ) represents Bridge Builder,
• the straight ribbon (||, e.g. ) stands for Pontifex I.,
• the ribbon tapered towards the medal (\/, e.g. ) denotes BCS / Pontifex II.

Medal ribbon colour -> Category

In addition, bridge building contests always have two different main categories like CLEAN vs. DIRTY, NORMAL vs. HARD. Additional categories present in most contests are ARTISTIC, INVENTOR and ORIGINAL (the latter only in contest 24). In the contests 18 and 20 the main category DIRTY was replaced by an EXPERTS category with extremely hard levels. The same category name is applied to contest 26 where a series of 12 levels had to be solved. The categories indicate the colour of the medal ribbon:

• medals won in the CLEAN or NORMAL category have a red ribbon (e.g. ),
• medals won in the DIRTY or HARD category have a blue ribbon (e.g. ),
• medals won in the ARTISTIC and the ORIGINAL category have a purple ribbon (e.g. or ),
• medals won in the INVENTOR category have a green ribbon (e.g. ),
• medals won in the EXPERT category have a dark blue ribbon (e.g. ),

Medal colour -> Rank & Title

The colour of the medal indicates the rank of the winner in the main categories.

• a first place is awarded with a gold medal (e.g. , or ) and the title of "Bridge General", "Bridge Don" or "Bridge Experts King" respectively,
• a second place is awarded with a silver medal (e.g. , or ) and the title of "Bridge Major", "Bridge Mafioso" or "Bridge Experts Lord" respectively,
• a third place is awarded with a bronze medal (e.g. , or ) and the title of "Bridge Captain", "Bridge Bandit" or "Bridge Experts Knight" respectively,

Medal size -> Special Categories

The medals for the special categories ARTISTIC, ORIGINAL and INVENTOR are a bit smaller than the medals in the main categories. The same applies to the winners of individual levels in contest 26.

• main category medals are large (e.g. , or ),
• special category medals are smaller (e.g. , , , , or ).

Hall of Fame Points

The winners in the categories defined above are awarded with a varying number of points:

• 12 points for a first place in the EXPERTS category (),
• 10 points for a first place in all other main categories (CLEAN, DIRTY, NORMAL, HARD) (e.g. , ),
• 8 points for a second place in the EXPERTS category (),
• 6 points for a second place in all other main categories (CLEAN, DIRTY, NORMAL, HARD) (e.g. , ),
• 5 points for a third place in the EXPERTS category (),
• 3 points for a third place in all other main categories (CLEAN, DIRTY, NORMAL, HARD) (e.g. , ),
• 3 points for a first place in an individual level in Contest 26 ,
• 2 points for a "Bridge Artist" title (e.g. ),
• 2 points for a "Bridge Inventor" title (e.g. ),
• 2 points for a "Bridge Replicator" title (e.g. ),
• 2 points for a second place in an individual level in Contest 26 ,
• 1 point for a third place in an individual level in Contest 26 ,

Finally and only until recently, medals for hosting a contest are included (, , ) and awarded with 5 points.

Ranking

In case several people have the same number of points, they get listed in chronological order (of winning the points). In case several people reach an equal amount of points after a given contest, the person with the most gold medals is placed first, then the number of silver medals gets compared if necessary, etc. For the curious, if nothing helps, I'd put the younger person first, and probably sort them alphabetically as the last resort ;)
