 Pontifex Contest 5 Results

Introduction

Contest 5 was an improvement. There were no misunderstandings concerning the rules whatsoever. The number of entries has increased from 17 to 31 (well... about 80% more, not bad, eh? :) ), I hope it keeps increasing...

There was one minor glitch, however: I forgot to place the rails in the level :) My bad, won't happen next time...

The system with the password-protected bridge cost discussion forum has worked pretty well IMO, so I'm going to use it in all future contests. The forum is no longer password-protected at the moment, the protection will only get turned on whenever a contest is in progress.

I still think there could have been more entries, since many people voted 'I'm not good enough' in the last poll. Don't forget that building the cheapest bridge isn't the only point of the contest! *Makes mental note to revise the rules page next time* (BTW, the poll got 'sabotaged' since I had accidentally turned the 'only one vote per day' protection off, so the final results got messed up, sorry again)

One thing I'd like to point out is that some contestants didn't read the rules page properly. For example, some e-mails I received had custom subject lines, which made sorting the entries a lot more complicated. This might seem a minor issue, but everything adds up in the end. I'm not just being anal-retentive, I just don't want to waste lots of time just because some people are too lazy to read the rules page - please read it, that's what it's there for!

In order to make the next contest even better, I really need as much feedback as possible, especially from those who didn't submit bridges. I've set up a forum thread for contest feedback once again. Please tell me what you did or didn't like.

Each of the winners will get an eternal place in the Hall Of Fame, as soon as I get the necessary information from them.

For your reference, the rules/prizes page and the contest level file can still be found here.
