 Bridge Builder Contest 6 Results

Introduction

The first Bridge Builder contest on BridgeBuilder-Game.com is over, and I think it was a good one. There was a total of 28 submissions this time. None were disqualified. I did, however, get two bridges for completely different levels (original L1 and L9) and one mail without an attached bridge file (but with a bridge description). Both authors didn't reply to my e-mails as of now. Update: the author of the latter mail has re-sent his bridge. I've added it to the summary page.

It seems like most people liked the level, and I'm glad to know that.

Unfortunately, there were only 6 'dirty' entries, so it wasn't all that difficult to grab a title there... Still, those winners deserve their titles well.

I tried to encourage more people to submit bridges that don't necessarily are cost-effective, but rather nice or funny, but it seems it didn't work out quite as it should. So I'll put more emphasis on this next time. I think I should have introduced a separate category for 'artistic' bridges, and I'll do so in the next contest.

Obviously, with Bridge Builder, it's much more likely that two bridges cost the same, because the bridge links all cost $100. Fortunately, there were no ties among the very best bridges this time. There was still a lot of discussion about this topic, and also about whether to allow multiple submissions from the same person. I've been thinking about which solution would be best for everyone, and my decision is to allow two submissions per category per player in the future. I don't want to allow an unlimited number of submissions; allowing just one is a bit too restrictive for some of you, and all the other solutions are IMO too complicated. Of course, this only goes for BB contests, in Pontifex, a tie is extremely unlikely to occur, so I'm only going to allow one bridge per category per player for Pontifex contests.

As always, any feedback on the contest is more than welcome. Please post your thoughts in this forum thread.

Each of the winners will get an eternal place in the Hall Of Fame (if he doesn't have one yet) as soon as I get the necessary information from them.

The bridge cost discussion forum is no longer password-protected until the next contest starts.

For your reference, the rules/prizes page and the contest level file can still be found here.
